About the College of Sciences
and
the University of Central Florida
|
The University of Central
Florida is a growing metropolitan university established in 1963 as Florida
Technological University. Located in Orlando, Florida - the state's most
rapidly growing technology area - UCF offers an array of research and
educational opportunities to students interested in pursuing a graduate
education in the arts and sciences. Additionally, as an industry, the university has shown
itself to be a proven leader in promoting and developing high-tech growth in
Central Florida.

UCF's
graduate programs enroll more than 7000 graduate students and rank in the top
25% for number of Masters degrees awarded in the U.S., while awarding over 250
Doctoral degrees annually. Currently, the
College of Sciences offers
23 Masters and Doctoral degrees. From the
different tracks available, the colleges offer a total of 32 degree
options in a diverse array of disciplines (for a listing of these programs,

increase in the number of graduate programs is expected over the next ten years
to potentially include doctoral programs Political Science, Statistical Computing & Data
Mining. The College of Sciences also currently offers six Graduate Certificate programs, including SAS
Data Mining from our Statistics department and Sociology's Domestic Violence
certificate.

The University of Central Florida is a charter member of the
Central Florida Higher Education Alliance which serves as an education resource
to the community. Additionally, UCF is a member of the Council of Graduate
Schools and is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern
Association of Colleges and Schools.
UCF's
Carnegie classification is Comprehensive Doctoral without a Medical School
(previously Doctoral/Research University-Intensive) and is ranked
38th in the nation for the strength of it's research and patents
(MIT Technology Review).
Through
research and grants, almost $200 million is awarded annually, generated locally
along Florida's High-Tech corridor and at the state and federal levels.
The
colleges are affiliated with over 30 research facilities in
the area, including the Central
Florida Research Park
and
centers such as the
Florida
Eastern Europe Linkage Institute and Walt Disney World’s partnership with

Publications from the colleges include:
The Political Chronicle (Political Science), Homicide Studies
and Social
Science Research (Sociology and Anthropology). Various departments offer membership in local, regional, and
national organizations, including the American Psychological Association (Psychology)
and American Mathematical Society (Mathematics) and the university has a
Graduate
Student Association (GSA)

A graduate education at the University of Central Florida is not only
beneficial for educational advancement and exposure to experiential and research
opportunities, holding a graduate degree also has the potential to increase one's
salary by 25% as compared to having only a baccalaureate degree (U.S. Census
Bureau, 2000). Therefore, whether you have just finished a bachelor’s of have
